Ten fresh cases of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the state on Wednesday, a press release from health minister KK Shailaja said.Of the new cases, three are from Malappuram, two each in Palakkad, Wayanad, and one each in Kottayam, Kannur, and Kozhikode.
Four of the confirmed cases are returnees from abroad, and two are returnees from Chennai.The two new cases in Wayanad developed the disease through contact with a truck driver from Chennai.The new cases in Malappuram and Kannur are police officers that were deployed on duty in Wayanad. They also developed the disease from the truck driver, raising the number of coronavirus infections from this same driver to 10
Over various districts, 34,447 persons are under observation including 494 in hospitals.168 persons were admitted to hospitals on Monday.Samples of 39,380 persons (including augmented samples) were sent for testing so far.Of the available results, 38,509 tests have returned negative for the virus.
In addition to this, 4268 samples were collected as part of sentinel surveillance and 4065 samples returned with negative results.No new hotspot was declared in the state on Wednesday.
