The Kerala High Court ordered to give the ‘two leaves’ symbol to Jose K Mani faction of the Kerala Congress. The order of the single bench upheld the decision of the central election commission. The order of the high court was after rejecting P J Joseph’s plea on the symbol.
Based on the plea of P J Joseph, the court had earlier temporarily imposed a stay in using the two leaves symbol and the two factions were granted different symbols also. However, in its order issued today, the high court said the decision of the Central Election Commission to allot the two leaves symbol to Jose K Mani is correct.
Meantime, the Kerala State Election Commission (SEC) had frozen the ‘two leaves’ symbol amid the raging dispute between the two factions of the Kerala Congress (M) over the party symbol. The state election commission had allotted ‘chenda’ (drum) to Joseph faction and ‘table fan’ to Jose K Mani as their respective symbols.
When by-polls were held in Pala constituency, Jose K Mani faction’s candidate Jose Tom Pulikkunnel contested in pineapple symbol. Jose had then reacted saying not getting their symbol is the reason for the defeat in Pala.
